We are unique in including the family soprannome when they appear on the original record. A soprannome is a nickname that follows the last name and is used to distinguish one branch of a family from others with the same surname. Both surnames and soprannome are searchable.
These records may reflect a more archaic spelling of your ancestor’s name or surname, such as Angiola for Angela, Salvadore for Salvatore, di Vito for DeVito, or Fuschetto for Fischetti. Lowercase the di, de, d’, dell’ part of the surname.
